The Road to Hell is Paved by Volunteers

Dammit people I have a problem…
My beliefs are starting to change…
I’m seeing things in the nonprofit world…
That strike me as oddly strange…

First things first… Lets get this straight…
I am not a nonprofit… I’ve never received a grant…
I really dislike when people say I can’t…

When you see photos of my gardens…
When you see photos of my “work”…
Never received a penny… And dealt with the jerks…

At some point you begin to feel used…
Broken down… Beat up… And mentally abused…
Cleaning a neighborhood is a thankless job…

I feel that I can do amazing work…
Doesn’t mean a thing in the real world…
Community service hours in the thousands…
They don’t mean a thing in the real world…
Won’t help you get a job…
Even with the people you volunteer for…
If a college grad has applied…
They’ll get the job… Even if your more qualified…

The road to hell is paved in good intentions…
But I’d be willing to bet it was paved by volunteers…
