Out With A Bang

VictorianWisteria

“Wisteria Rose” – © chriscondello 2013 – Private Garden – North Avenue – Wilkinsburg, PA – Some of the nicest gardens I work in… Are in some of the poorest neighborhoods in Allegheny County…

Yesterday… I had the opportunity to spend my day working in the garden of an old Victorian home… The garden was a bit neglected… But that happens to be my specialty so it was no big thing… Today… I returned with my camera… This is a photo essay of my journey… From yesterdays Victorian garden… To the walk home… And everything in between… I hope you enjoy…

Wisteria

“Wisteria” – © chriscondello 2013 – Private Garden – North Avenue – Wilkinsburg, PA – Blended with the scent of the red climbing rose… Wisteria is one of the more complex spring scents…

Nailed

“Nailed” – © chriscondello 2013 – Private Garden – North Avenue – Wilkinsburg, PA – The leaky gutter has been working on this post for years… But the nail seems to be clinging for dear life…

TripleCrown

“Triple Crown” – © chriscondello 2013 – Private Garden – North Avenue – Wilkinsburg, PA – Triple Crown Thornless Blackberry – This berry is a relic of the last tenant… One of the cool things about working around rental properties here in Wilkinsburg is you never know what the last tenant left…

Mock

“Mock Orange” – © chriscondello 2013 – Private Garden – North Avenue – Wilkinsburg, PA – This property is practically surrounded by Mock Orange blossoms… The scent was incredibly powerful…

Cookie

“C Is For Cookie” – © chriscondello 2013 – Taylor Way – Wilkinsburg, PA – This hat was on the side of a pretty sketchy alley… I snapped a few photographs… Then a guy came out of an apartment nearby and told me to mind my own business… So I did…

glass

“Scattered Pieces” – © chriscondello 2013 – Taylor Way – Wilkinsburg, PA – This garage looked as if it was throwing-up garbage… The glass was dangerously scattered from one end of the alley to the other… I wish they used more than clear glass…

RedBlueTwo

“Reflected Colors” – © chriscondello 2013 – North Avenue – Wilkinsburg, PA – Standing in the right place… At the right time… Red brick reflection on the one window… Blue sky on the other…

Grid

“Natures Helping Hand” – © chriscondello 2013 – Mill Street – Wilkinsburg, PA – If not for the covering branches of an old mulberry… This garage would be in full sun… I found it interesting that no branches were inside the garage… Almost as if the tree was embarrassed…

SchoolYard

“Frazzled” – © chriscondello 2013 – Mill Street – Wilkinsburg, PA – Growing out of the endless brick and concrete surface… This English Plantain is the only plant in sight for 50′ in any direction… As frazzled as a broke crackhead…

MillStreet2

“Empty Block” – © chriscondello 2013 – Mill Street – Wilkinsburg, PA – Mill Street is now an empty block… Among the broken beer bottles and used condoms…

MillDaisy

“Corner Daisy” – © chriscondello 2013 – Mill Street – Wilkinsburg, PA – Two years ago this lot was the home of a 4-unit craftsman style row house… But it had to come down… Now… Clover and daisy are doing their part to reclaim the land… An engineered future urban meadow…

MillClover

“Urban Meadow” – © chriscondello 2013 – Mill Street – Wilkinsburg, PA – Exact same lot as the photo above… except the photo is of clover… And the house is a Victorian beauty…

Tonka

“Tonka Time” – © chriscondello 2013 – Rebecca Avenue – Wilkinsburg, PA – You never know what you will find on the front porch of an abandoned home… Sometimes… The photos are handed to me…

WhiteRoseCenter

“More Than Ruins” – © chriscondello 2013 – Center Street – Wilkinsburg, PA – The 400 block of Center Street is one of the nicer blocks in Wilkinsburg… This rose grows on the side of one of the wood sided houses on this particular stretch… I’ll call it the home stretch as I am almost home…

My habit is to notice what could be made more beautiful. For example, I look at litter rather than flowers. Your photos give me an excellent example to follow to change this habit. I especially love all the flower photos! I would like to make such photos myself and hope to learn.

Once again, such beautiful images! Frazzled is my favorite – growing in the middle of concrete and trying to survive.

I did enjoy – in a melancholy sort of way. Thanks for sharing.
