“Better Than Brick” – © chriscondello 2013 – Highland Park – Pittsburgh, PA – One entire side of this backyard is a 3 story brick wall… If not for the ivy… This backyard would be unbearably hot…But the leaves are able to absorb a lot of that solar energy… genius…

“Kindling” – © chriscondello 2013 – Highland Park – Pittsburgh, PA – My girlfriend pointed this shot out… If you are going to keep a pile of wood on your front porch… Might as well stack it creatively… I should mention that all of the proceed from this tour were donated to “Just Harvest”… Just thought I would mention that… Google them for more information…

“City Chicken” – © chriscondello 2013 – Highland Park – Pittsburgh, PA – I swear to God… No matter how many times I said “say cheese”… These cluckers would not smile… Chickens will be the death of me… As soon as we are allowed to have them in Wilkinsburg that is…

“Younger Clucker” – © chriscondello 2013 – Highland Park – Pittsburgh, PA – This will be a stately looking chicken some day… The small cage on the ground is an ingenious way of moving the chickens over small sections of the garden… Think micro tractor coop…

“Red Currant” – © chriscondello 2013 – Highland Park – Pittsburgh, PA – By far… Red currants are one of my favorite berries… And beautiful as well… Extremely easy to propagate by layering… And they look great as an ornamental shrub anywhere you want to put them… Think red currant hedge…

“Hen N Chick” – © chriscondello 2013 – Highland Park – Pittsburgh, PA – I love these puff-ball headed birds… I think this is a silky… But honestly… I’m not very educated in backyard chickens… More of a fan…

“Easter In June” – © chriscondello 2013 – Highland Park – Pittsburgh, PA – As you can see here… Plain old white eggs are becoming a thing of the past… Now… You can choose chickens based on the color of their eggs…
This tour is a great example of civil disobedience… Although chickens are perfectly legal… I think they may face some future battles… The homes on this tour will be on the front lines…

That black chicken is quite the beauty. When I was young, and we had chickens on the farm, I don’t remember tis type being an option. Not only are they great for eggs they are mini fashions running around.
