“Chix Were Here” – © chriscondello 2013 – Fineview – Pittsburgh, PA – On Saturday… My girlfriend and I attended the Chicks-In-The-Hood tour of Pittsburgh for the third year in a row… The tour is a self guided journey through some of Pittsburgh’s coolest neighborhoods… It is also the one time of the year that many of these gardens are open to the public…

“Historic Heathside Cottage” – © chriscondello 2013 – Fineview – Pittsburgh, PA – This house alone was worth the drive up Television Hill… Built in 1855… And listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974… This house… To me… Is one of the best examples of a Late Victorian… Gothic Revival house in the City of Pittsburgh…

“A Fine Coop” – © chriscondello 2013 – Fineview – Pittsburgh, PA – This chicken coop has a view of the city skyline… Although it a little too hazy to see the city on this particular day… I was assured that the chickens appreciate it as much as I did…

“Concrete Coop” – © chriscondello 2013 – Historic Deutschtown – Pittsburgh, PA – This coop was a perfect example of how little space you actually need to raise chickens… This back yard… Well… Back patio is completely devoid of grass… Just concrete… Yet these chickens were just as happy as…

“As Happy As A Child” – © chriscondello 2013 – Historic Deutschtown – Pittsburgh, PA – This kid just appeared in front of my camera… Didn’t have much to say… But his smile said more than words can describe…

“Salvia” – © chriscondello 2013 – Mexican War Streets – Pittsburgh, PA – The Mexican War Streets on Pittsburgh’s Northside are what I would consider one of the coolest neighborhoods in Pittsburgh… I have only been able to dream about what the backyard gardens must look like in this neighborhood as access is all but impossible… But thanks to chickens… The public can now get a glimpse into one of these urban gardens…

“Goose… Berries…” – © chriscondello 2013 – Mexican War Streets – Pittsburgh, PA – I am a huge fan of Gooseberries… So when I saw this homeowner pruning her gooseberries… I had to ask for some cuttings… What I wound up with was cuttings for not only two types of gooseberry… But some pink champagne currants as well…

“Mexican War Blueberry” – © chriscondello 2013 – Mexican War Streets – Pittsburgh, PA – This is the first ripe blueberry I have seen this year… This backyard is .08 acres… Yet… It seems to have acres worth of food growing in it… Inspiration at its finest here folks… One of the “Must See” houses on the tour…

How fun. You need business cards. So you can give them tot he homeowner to see your posts. I bet you would get invited back to document them. I know I would invite you. Love your pictures.

These posts take me back to my days in Pittsburgh! I remember doing the South Side Steps tour, but had never heard of the “chick tour.” There are a lot of great neighborhoods!
