“Framed Verbena” – Hamnett Place Community Garden – Wilkinsburg, PA – Growing between the Black Locust fence rails at the community garden behind my house… A very slender and tall plant often growing to 6’… The flowers which appear in mid to late Summer are very attractive to butterflies… They also provide nectar for native bees and many beneficial insects…

“Cinnamon on Tri-Color Sage” – Whitney Avenue – Wilkinsburg, PA – Osteospermum… This plant can survive extreme drought conditions… When water is scarce this plant will go into “sleep mode” in order to survive… Though it will abort flower bud development and will take some time to resume regular flower production…

“Compost on Grid” – Hamnett Place Community Garden – Wilkinsburg, PA – Almost perfect cherry tomato on top of the compost bin… A perfect circle resting on a sea of squares…

“From the Compost Bin” – Hamnett Place Community Garden – Wilkinsburg, PA – Found blooming inside the compost bin… Upon closer inspection… They had been cut and left inside the bin… Only to flower later…

“Sprinkles and Sage” – Whitney Avenue – Wilkinsburg, PA – Possibly my favorite variety of sage… I don’t even use it in food… I just like how it looks…

“Orange Dream Rose” – Whitney Avenue – Wilkinsburg, PA – I got this Rose for one of my neighbors a few years ago… And then she moved across the street… So I moved the Rose across the street… Six months later she moved back across the street into her original apartment… The Rose is now her granddaughters…

“Drenched Dianthus” – The Garden Table Urban Garden – Wilkinsburg, PA – A rather late bloomer… This particular plant will bloom through frost all the way up to the first hard freeze… Making it an excellent choice for low-growing late season interest…

“Rust” – Jeanette Street – Wilkinsburg, PA – With all of the flower photographs in this series… I had to throw some reality in… Some decay… A reminder of why I garden in the places I do…

“Pink New England Aster” – Center Street – Wilkinsburg, PA – An impressive flower when in full bloom… It can be seen from a block away thanks to the odd color for October… Hopefully this plant will spread enough by Spring for me to sneak a few root cuttings…
