A Plant A Day Till Spring – Day 35 – Jasmine

“My Jasmine” – Summer 2013 – Whitney Avenue (my back porch) – Wilkinsburg, PA

“A Plant a Day till Spring” will highlight one plant a day, starting on the winter solstice (December 21, 2013)… And ending on the vernal equinox (March 20, 2014)… If all goes to plan I will be starting with old Snowdrop photos from 2013… And ending with new photos of Snowdrops in 2014…

Two years ago today… I woke up in the basement of an abandoned house… I was covered in blood… And I had a hypodermic needle bent into my arm… I quickly finished the shot and staggered to my feet… I hadn’t eaten in days and my skin was turning yellow…

In this basement… I gave up heroin… Though I continued to use for four more days… This was where it began…
This event sparked my desire…
My desire to suffer less…
My desire to be more…

——————————————————————————————-

I am not going to pretend to know… Well… Anything about this plant… Because I don’t… Here is what I do know… The fragrance is intoxicating… It can be noticed from 20′ away… After a rainfall the scent is multiplied… Couple that with the smell of fresh rainfall… Damn… As I write this my mouth is actually watering…

Jasmine blossoms last for one day… It blooms in the late afternoon/early evening… Persists through the night into the morning… Then they slowly fall off throughout the next day in the breeze… Almost like clockwork when the last blossom falls… A new one is born…

Jasmine is not hardy… Mine is in a pot… As I write this my Jasmine is beginning to put on new flower buds… Winter flowering on my jasmine is not nearly as profuse as the Summer blossoms… The flowers that do come into fruition are much smaller and not nearly as white… But… They smell 10x as strong as they do in the Summer… So much so that the scent travels through closed doors…

Jasmine on my Mind

Jasmine is…
Connected to my soul…
Connected to my heart…
When she blooms I follow…

Jasmine is…
The sunshine that brightens…
The winters darkness in my mind…
When she blooms I follow…

When I bloom… The darkness crumbles…
The earth shakes… And the ground rumbles…

The earth shakes… And my fears crumble…
The earth shakes because I am about to grow…

Grow with me… Or without me… Just grow…

I’m amazed at what you are doing. Where do you get all the seeds and plants?

Always looking for plants… Don’t have much money so I had to become a master propagator… Basically… If I can get close enough to a plant to touch it… 9 out of 10 times I can propagate it…

I love jasmine too. It used to grow on a fence along my running route, and bloomed for a few weeks every spring… I just ate a piece of leftover decadent chocolate birthday cake and dedicated it to celebration of your anniversary.:)

I have wanted to try growing this plant for awhile. It sounds heavenly. Looks like it is time to start looking for one.
