“Framed” Summer 2013 – Frick Park – Pittsburgh, PA
“A Plant a Day till Spring” will highlight one plant a day, starting on the winter solstice (December 21, 2013)… And ending on the vernal equinox (March 20, 2014)… If all goes to plan I will be starting with old Snowdrop photos from 2013… And ending with new photos of Snowdrops in 2014…
Zizia aurea… Or the name I prefer… Golden Alexander… Chances are you have seen this plant… It is a member of the Parsley family… Which basically means it’s all stalk… In shade this plant grows about 2′ tall… In full sun it gets much taller… Todays post is not really about the plant… It’s about perception…
I chose todays plant because of the photograph… Golden Alexander is not one of those plants people really pay much attention too… I never have… This photograph would have never even made the cut had it not been framed in the trees…
The other day I was scouring the depths of the internet for information on a plant… Deep in the results of Google images was the photograph from above… I smiled and clicked it… Expecting my blog to pop up… So imagine my surprise when the site was in Russian… And my mark had been cropped out…
As I sat here trying to figure out a way to transfer all of my anger through the thirteen inch laptop screen I am staring at right now… After a few moments of consideration… I suddenly smiled and realized how ridiculous I was being… I mean… What was I going to do? Fire off a nasty email… Threaten to sue…
It took a moment… But I found myself flattered… This is the internet… And there are literally millions of photographs here… Photographs that were taken by millions of photographers all over the world… And they chose my photograph to rip off…
