Orchard in the Sun – Horizon of Diamonds

"Orchard in the Sun" - Soergel Orchards - Wexford, PA

“Orchard in the Sun” – Soergel Orchards – Wexford, PA

Blue skies stretch from horizon to horizon…
Morning air is clear like a flawless diamond…
Prepping my gear surrounded in swallows…
When the fog clears the noon sun follows…

No finer place to be than in the summer breeze…
Another day spent among the old apple trees…
Soon the sun will be in the middle of the sky…
Alone in this orchard my lifted spirit will fly…

At the top of a tree sits a lonely bird nest…
My role in the canopy is as a humble guest…
I climbed up here from the ground down below…
Each time I climb a tree my little spirit grows…

By the end of the day I touch every tree in sight…
I thin all the fruit so the apples ripen in light…
A few more months and the season will be done…
Another day in paradise in an orchard in the sun…

Red Currant – Pick the Berries

RedCurrant

“Red Currant” – Garden Dreams – Wilkinsburg, PA

If you don’t pick the berries… The birds will surely get them…
What makes a cherry last is to harvest with the whole stem…
A Red Currant is slowly swaying in the steady winds…
An Apple is forbidden fruit… Forbidden like our sins…

A crying mourning dove signals from the power lines above…
Set against the cloudless blue sky… Summer scents of love…
The wind blows through the leaves and over the swaying trees…
If the flowers had wings they would visit the honey bees…

Red rust compliments the decaying copper green…
Straight corn-stalks supports the climbing green beans…
Bee balm flowering against a cloudless sky of blue…
A perfect night dreaming with the company of you…

Peony Blossoms – Darkness Leads to Light

PinkPeony

“Solo Pink” – Center Street – Wilkinsburg, PA – Many of my flower shots would not be possible if not for my urban environment… In fact… Many of my plant photographs are located on abandoned property… Or in this case… Relocated from abandoned property onto property that is more fitting for the long-term survival of the plant… I can only speculate age in most cases… This particular Peony came from a house that was 100 years old and 15 years abandoned… The original clump was 3-4 feet around…

Darkness Leads to Light

Scent of honeysuckle and peony blossoms…
Dogs barking over police siren cautions…
After dark observations of cats and raccoons…
Crickets are chirping at the crescent moon…

The sound of the breeze in the urban trees…
Cool air against my warm extremities…
Its past midnight and this breeze is just right…
Time in the dark brings meaning to the light…

Time spent in the dark brings meaning to the light…

PinkPeonyGroup

“Pink Choir” – Center Street – Wilkinsburg, PA – Another salvaged Peony… Saved by a salvaged human being… Saved from the wrecking ball… Pulled from the shadows of a collapsing world… Saved for a purpose… Like me… And you… After all we all have a purpose… We all have a meaning… We all have the ability to shine light on the darkness surrounding us… Shine on people… Shine on…

A Plant A Day Till Spring – Day 17 – Wood Hyacinth

SAM_3143©

“Spanish Bluebells” – Hyacinthoides hispanica – Spring 2013 – Whitney Avenue – Wilkinsburg, PA

“A Plant a Day till Spring” will highlight one plant a day, starting on the winter solstice (December 21, 2013)… And ending on the vernal equinox (March 20, 2014)… If all goes to plan I will be starting with old Snowdrop photos from 2013… And ending with new photos of Snowdrops in 2014…

Hyacinthoides hispanica… Known by the common names “Spanish Bluebell”, and “Wood Hyacinth”… Is a spring-flowering bulbous perennial… It is considered invasive in many areas including the UK…

It is a cold day here in Pittsburgh… A Monday… And the temperature is going down to -10 F. tonight… I don’t feel like writing at the moment… Instead… I’ll leave you with a poem I wrote last spring… May 8th, 2013 to be exact… One of my favorites…

Among the Wood Hyacinth

Laying among the wood hyacinth… Scattered among the leaves… Enjoying the scattered rain showers… Blown in the lilac breeze…

Cherry blossoms fall like snowfall… And apple blossoms drop in the rain… While sitting in the sunshine… My metaphysical gain…

Steady rain will soon arrive… To conquer the tulip petals… Dandelion floaters flutter and fly… But soon they’ll gently settle…

In the back of my mind… The rules break and bend… Plan for the springtime… The season never ends…

The seasons all about beginnings… Breaking new ground… In the city I am lost… In the garden I am found…

And the forest is my heaven… My temple of praise… A place to write poems… A place to smoke haze…

And drink my cup of coffee… With my birds and bees… The only time that I feel right… Is hanging with the trees…
