I am but an observant soul… Lost… Looking for a way to be found…
Looking for a way to ask for something I can’t define…
Looking for that elusive sign… Looking for myself…
Searching through the darkness…
Realizing I am of the darkness…

All is well… Everything is just peachy…
My lie of a smile denies you the real me…
Blue skies combined with yellow clouds in gray…
Evenings approach ushers in another orange day…
Another day of labor… Another day in the heat…
Another day I didn’t wave the white flag of defeat…

A Plant A Day Till Spring – Day 41 – Swamp Mallow

“Swamp Mallow” – Summer 2013 – Frick Park – Pittsburgh, PA

“A Plant a Day till Spring” will highlight one plant a day, starting on the winter solstice (December 21, 2013)… And ending on the vernal equinox (March 20, 2014)… If all goes to plan I will be starting with old Snowdrop photos from 2013… And ending with new photos of Snowdrops in 2014…

It’s the dead of winter and I woke up this morning thinking about sunshine and the local park… You could almost say I woke up with wildflowers on my mind…

Wildflowers on my mind… Wildflowers in my soul… Wildflowers quickly become an obsession… When you start to learn about them… Then even more importantly start to notice them… You realize they are everywhere… Eventually… You will want to grow them… And soon you have got them coming out of your ass… That’s just how it goes… Don’t be all judgy… I have had worse addictions than flower hoarding…

When I took the photograph above… A young girl ran up to me with her mother and asked if this plant was Hibiscus… She said her daughter wanted to know… I explained that it was… But told them the differences between our native variety and the tropical variety they had at home… I was even able to get them a few seeds off the plant… I explained how to grow them… And they left… I hope I see them again this year to see if they got them to grow…

Short but sweet… Hope you have a great day… As always…

Set out across the winter landscape…
Among the skeletons of sleeping trees…
Gracefully striding in leaps and bounds…
Silent night among the sleepy sounds…

Steady mind for the journey ahead…
Better things to do than lay in bed…
The evening shadows creep and crawl…
Occasional bursts of white snowfall…

Grace the path to promised lands…
Take a breath and raise your hands…
Heaven is the land in front of our eyes…
Expect the unexpected occasional surprise…

To creep on up when you think your down…
Raindrop flood and we eventually drown…
These same drops make my garden grow…
Combine with sun to get a full rainbow…

Another week back to the steady grind…
Take a day off and see what you find…

Waiting for spring so my gardens grow…
Flowers bloom and sunshine flows…
With our hands we draw and render…
Garden dreams and paradise splendor…

Heaven is a garden on physical land…
Sown in our minds but created by hand…

God and nature are the only things I trust…

Slaying Dragons – Felon Dreaming

Eyes on the ceiling… Back to the ground…
Rain drops drop in a rhythmic sound…
Thinking about how my life would be…
Living without heroin and a felony…

My arms show the scars of a million pricks…
Result of a mountain of heroin bricks…
Experience that only earned me a fight…
Desire to live lies in my will to write…

Writing is my last shot at redemption…
Art and photography my only salvation…
The few worlds where pain gets you paid…
One of the trades I bring in spades…

No options but to carve my own path…
Stand up and give the haters my wrath…
Take away my voice but can’t take my pen…
Thanks to God I still have a friend…

My only option is to continue writing…
Accept reality and continue fighting…
I will never be a part of the white-collar crowd…
Searching for a way to make someone proud…

Looking for a reason… A will to live…
A continuing reason to charitably give…
Locked out of opportunity… Left alone…
Societal failure… I’m on my own…

Can’t look down I gotta keep looking up…
When my glass is half empty I’ll hit you with my cup…
The world always seems to be pushing me down…

The first few leaves are turning red…
Next the perennials go to bed…
