Abstract Portrait – A Child’s Breath

comment

“A Child’s Breath” – Wilkinsburg, PA – Children are playing in my front yard… Blowing bubbles and laughing… As I stood there with my camera… I suddenly realized that inside of each of those bubbles was the breath of the child that created it… Set free to float across the neighborhood… Waiting for a place to settle down… I had to capture the moment… An abstract portrait of the neighborhood children… A child is a seedling… A grownup is a tree…
A seed that is planted will eventually grow free…

Composition in Scraps – Primary

Comp2b

“Composition in Scraps – Primary” – Bricks from my garden… River stones from the alley… Dandelions and Buttercups… Blue Flag Iris… Bamboo… Red Twig Dogwood… Apple…

A collaboration of a few of the things I find beautiful… Mere scraps to most… But to me… To me these things all posses as much individual beauty as they do as one composition… They were collected for a reason… They were collected to define a season… They were collected to define me…

Self Portrait – Google Maps Photobomb

20140421-135053.jpg

I don’t typically like to post “off theme”… But today I am making an exception… My sister was using Google Maps to navigate her way to my house… While in street view she noticed something strange in my front yard… Upon further inspection… Yup… That’s me… Blurred face… Shirtless… And dirty as all hell… Giving two thumbs up as the google car passed the house…

Self portrait courtesy of Google Maps… How cool is that…

I don’t have access to the scenic vistas or beautiful landscapes that are commonly thought of as “grand”… So I have to make them… Believe it or not… This installation is on the banks of a sewer… Your surroundings are what you make of them… And in my case… I want to make them grand…

Weekly Photo Challenge: An Unusual POV

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

“Black and Gold Landscape” – Frick Park – Pittsburgh, PA

This photo is a combination of black and yellow food coloring strategically released into a section of Nine Mile Run in Frick Park… The water was surprisingly clear… So I added dye… As the dye slowly crept through the water I watched my landscape appear in the reflection before my very  own eyes…

This photo had only been rotated 180 degrees… Absolutely no color edits were performed… Only black and yellow food coloring…

The First Rays of Sunlight

I took a walk to Frick Park as the sun was rising… On my journey I spent a few moments watching the sun rise over an old church that was covered in pigeons… I found myself questioning whether God would consider the exorbitant amount of money spent on our places of worship money well spent… Probably not…

When I arrived to my destination the sun had yet to break the trees… As always… I sat for a while and scanned the area for stones… Having been to this spot before… I actually knew exactly where the sun would rise… I carefully chose my starter rock to be situated in front of the sun… Watching the beams of sunlight fall from the sky as the sun rose… Finally landing in all the right spots…

This photo is the result…
